Cunningham nets POW

Prince George Spruce Kings forward Corey Cunningham has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Mar. 31, the league announced Monday.

The 17-year-old scored three goals and added one assist over the weekend to propel PG to a 2-0 series lead over the Victoria Grizzlies in their third-round matchup.

In Game 1 on Friday, Cunningham assisted on Dylan Anhorn’s first-period goal, then scored one himself on a beautiful backhand deke around Grizzlies goalie Kurtis Chapman which gave the Spruce Kings a 4-0 lead. They would go on to win 4-2 and Cunningham was named third star of the game. In Game 2 the following night, the Prince George native scored 2:10 into the second period to tie the game at one, then later in the frame he scored the eventual game-winner with under two minutes to go as the Spruce Kings won again by a score of 4-2. He was named first star.

Cunningham now has four goals and four assists for eight points in 11 playoff games, tying him for sixth in playoff scoring on his team.
